Virtual Practice for RACFs

Virtual Practice delivers a full suite of Nursing Practice documentation. In the area of residential aged and community care we provide tools and workflows for:

  • Admission
  • Assessment
  • Care Planning
  • ACFI

In addition there is a full suite of exceptional writing templates centered around a communications module which links all participants in the care of the resident.

Being a combined medical and nursing record there is prescribing software for the medical practitioner which generates a list of medications which have been prescribed. In turn, these are printed on a drug administration from on a monthly basis which allows a record of when these medications were administered and by whom.

Additionally, Nurse-initiated medications are checked against current medications for interactions.

When medications are cancelled, a new sheet for the remainder of the month is printed. All changes are noted electronically and the pharmacist is advised of new prescriptions, changes in existing medications and/or dosages and is also advised when medications are stopped.

Exceptional writing such as for falls, behaviour disturbances or transfers generate their own workflows and attempt to guarantee adequate documentation of occurrences.

Every aspect of the documentation processes are taken care of from admission to discharge.

These include:

  • Demographic details
  • Belongings
  • Past history
  • Current medications
  • Social and cultural history
  • Problem list
  • Activities of daily living
  • Manual handling chart
  • Allergy list
A handover instrument gathers together all care documentation in a particular ward or area for the previous 24 hours plus whatever prior period is selected. This not only allows the listing of the residents but also allows staff who have been away to quickly catch up with patient events over the time they were absent.

Instruments for the documentation of the various aspects of care are also available.

Why Choose the Virtual Practice System?

Virtual Practice lends itself to the process of clinical documentation in RACFs managing the change to electronic documentation as well as setting out the Intellectual Property of the institution itself. Often, the entire process of quality control rests with one or two senior staff and when they are absent or move on the processes have to be re-established, often at considerable cost in time.

Our system collects the information that is needed - the facts. We quiz staff on the detail as to what is present and what has been done. Virtual Practice uses an intuitive and simple question and answer format for data collection that is tailored to suit your organisation.

Of the many useful features and components in Virtual Practice, one of the most frequently used is the alert system. Your organisation can set-up custom alerts to monitor patient status, such as constipation - If there is no record of a resident having moved their bowels for 3 days then an automatic alert is generated to selected members of your health care team.

The Virtual Practice system was designed from the ground up by medical and nursing professionals. Special attention has been paid to flexibility in workflow; each system is tailored to work naturally and intuitively as part of the day-to-day operations.

  • Freedom from IT headaches: backups, upgrades and maintenance are all performed in the background and is transparent to your organisation. All that is needed to connect to Virtual Practice is a broadband internet connection.
  • Very little typing is needed: Most information is collected using a 'point-and-click' or 'question-and-answer' format which speeds the data collection process and limits the possibility for errors.
  • The system is flexible and easy to use: it is the best web-based system for care facilities available.
  • The facility is in control of their data and the system is tailored to their particular needs.
  • Saves money: the model is a "pay for use" one so there are no software license or upgrade fees.
  • Virtual Practice supports the accreditation process by showing improvement in the use of IT systems over time. We are committed to providing a first-class service and offer unlimited support.
